PAT Testing As well as tool repair, The Hireman also offers Portable Appliance Tests (PAT Testing). The Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) stipulates that all electrical systems and equipment including appliances used in any work place should be in a safe condition. It is recommended that to comply with the regulations an inspection and testing schedule should be implemented and maintained. How often should you PAT test? A test schedule is dependant on the type of equipment and its use, we recommend the following:  Equipment Type  Test Schedule  Commercial and industrial portable equipment  6 months  Construction portable equipment  3 months Examples of appliances that require PAT testing: Portable appliances that are held during operation such as drills, saws and grinders. Appliances that are designed to be moved or can be easily moved whilst in operation such as vacuum cleaners, cement mixers, fans and electric heaters and extension leads.
